TANG YUK CROWNED AGAIN

Gerard Tang Yuk looks forward to defending his newly reclaimed Backgammon title on Tuesday 27th October, as he maneuvered his way through all challengers on the last Tuesday of the month in a manner reminiscent of a true HERO.

Gerard repeated his June win to be Crowned Septembers Backgammon King and will become a Grand Master Champion and the first Trinidadian if he is to win 2 Tournaments in a row.

Another Excellent Tournament organized by the Trinidad Backgammon Association held on the Avenue at the popular SWEET LIME RESTAURANT in Woodbrook.

This month’s crowd included new players, as well as, the growing list of loyal and regular competitors as Jack Manazer and Naveen Baldeo had to enjoy the Art of Gerard’s moves.

The success of this monthly gathering event only goes to show the commitment of The Trinidad Backgammon Association to develop a social event and move towards competitions abroad. Contact Earl at earl@playdouble.com or 680 2627 to be part of the action!

``Backgammon is one of the oldest games in existence, dating back some 5000 years and believed to have been developed by the ancient Egyptians. It is not a game of luck as many believe, but a strategic game of war; in many ways as difficult to master as chess. A random element (luck) is certainly involved, but a champion player also uses the laws of probability, intuition, imagination and psychology to outwit his opponent''.

The Backgammon King

JACK [in the Box] MANAZER a POS business man really came out smelling like an expensive $5000 bottle of perfume after defeating his opponents and emerging as this months Backgammon King. Receiving his silver board set as the prestigious trophy and well deserved cash, Jack said he’s BACK!! The monthly event at SWEETLIME RESTAURANT Woodbrook was the Trinidad Backgammon Associations 5th event. Backgammon Lover Dennis Rose took home second place honors while Joe Moses came in third.

The consolation Prince Paul [Doc] Aboud once again won first place as he vows to soon be king of this skilled board game.

It was truly a night where the opponent’s faces told the story. A mixed crowed that seemed ever so Relaxed and entertained with local dancers that moved to the beat of the drums the restaurant was sizzling with variety.

The 6th Backgammon tournament is scheduled to be hosted at Sweetlime on Tuesday; July 31st. The Trinidad Backgammon Club comprises of a group of backgammon players from our very own cosmopolitan and multi mixed society who love the game and have chosen to bring it to life, here in Trinidad.
